I'm a guy who looks forward to Christmas every year. So even though inflation is hitting us hard, I still love to budget nice gifts for my loved ones. That being said besides the obvious gift, "jelly of the month club," the best thing I can give anyone else or even myself is the movie by National Lampoon's, "Christmas Vacation."
In most movie franchises, the original usually always reigns supreme but I think a lot of people would agree that this installment of this franchise," rises to the top." This movie and "Planes, Trains, and Automobiles," (which I'll most likely blog about at another point, are my top two holidays films. If you don't like egg nog, it's okay. Mr. Griswold has enough for everyone. Even cousin Eddie...;)
I think we all know how hectic the holidays can be so what better depiction then this movie. My family is definitely one of those families that relates to the Griswolds. And the older I get, I relate more and more to Clark. (I think guys can relate too). But since I like to celebrate Christmas in July why not start celebrating early this year??
There's so few franchises that have stood the test of time like this one. And for good reason. In comedy, the more relatable the better and what movie family is more relatable then this one? The family truckster, vacations gone horribly wrong, and a dad who just wants his family to have some fun on their "quests."
The older I get the more and more I appreciate all the things my dad sacrificed for us. I'm sure there were plenty of things he didn't feel like doing but did his best to make sure our family had a good time. Fun fact. My dad took me and a bunch of my friends to a horsetrack on quarter day for my 12th birthday. How cool is that!?
Anyway, in closing, if you've never seen this classic film, which I have no idea how that could possibly be, but if you've been living under a rock and have never seen it,
do yourself a favor and spend 2 hours watching it. It'll be the best gift you give yourself this year.
